THE END OF THE TRAIL
He had lost his faith and lost his pride, nothing left of his courage and will to ride. He was looking toward the end of the trail. When the music stopped and died away, there was no need for a cowboy to stay, She was pretty as the morning sky, as dawn broke over her last goodbye. He's headed toward the end of the trail. She wanted just to be wild and free, nearly killed him, that's plain to see. There's a cowboy hat on a headstone, that's all that's left from living life alone. He is just reaching the end of the trail. There was a time when he could sing, proud to wear the golden wedding ring. What can you do for a broken heart when love just tears your soul apart? Then he came to the end of the trail. On a hillside there is a simple grave, reward for what he got for what he gave. The moon shines on those all alone, another cowboy hat on a headstone. He had reached the end of the trail. The night wind howls in sympathy, but somehow I know he's finally free. He had reached the end of the trail. There is peace at the end of the trail.
