The Hum and the Thumb
"Cradling the device with my fingers..the ring tone set no longer lingers"

Wow, the best is beginning to hum –
Flipping open the cell with my thumb;
Cradling the device with my fingers,
While the ring tone set no longer lingers.

Anticipating the friend who is calling,
Thankful for their ring, not stalling;
Making our eventual plans concrete,
A movie theatre and a place to eat…

Arriving at the scheduled time,
Again, I hear the cell phone chime –
Traffic’s a bummer, their greatest fear,
But thumbs up to my friend, soon near.

A trace of people, thumbs up, okay,
While wishing to meet the other today –
The lasting chime of the cell phone ring
Still telling me why I carry this thing!
