I was walking graveyard shift Security Patrol in a housing complex and this wrote itself.
NIGHT WATCH

It's two-oh-two a.m. and I begin to take my walk
Through the dreamscape of a neighborhood that is fast asleep
I walk down the center of plastic-art-asphalt roadways
That are newly damp and smell of fresh rain mixed with the dust
The dark night is illumined by the glow of artificial lighting
Strung together in lines visible and in lines hidden
It irradiates and bathes in hues of shallow glow
The compartments rented for this transient moment in time
By the colony creatures of this post-industrial-revolution world
Whom sleep and dream this dark hour of the day away
I am awake while they are dreaming primordial image archetypes
In the playgrounds of their collective unconsciousnesses

A flash of lightning, and a strong November Wind
Now rustles through the bush and trees
Sending their leaves chasing after my heels and heavy footsteps
I can feel the cold front's low pressure system in my bones and ears
I see the shadows dance wildly with their partners
The wind, and bush, and trees, and light
As the giant 747 airships gently float gracefully
Down their glidepaths to their corporate parcel service Hub
One after another, moments apart, lights eeriely glowing
In the low lying clouds where their bodies squall into slipstreams
As I walk the artificial pathways on this tiny little planet
Located, as it does exist, in the Heavens of the Cosmos

Mother Nature and Father Time have both increased the chill
From where I first stepped gestalten foot on my path
And then as I approach my destination's goal
The first snow flakes of Autumn begin to touch the ground
And in turning my collar up to the cold, and yawning
In the synchronicity of The World, I continue my rounds
