MOMENTS I COULDN’T SAVE
I remember the day when I sat beside your bed. I kept talking love to you, You kept silent instead. All you could do was shake your Head to show you had heard. Faculty of speech was gone, You could not speak a word. Then you suddenly hiccupped And the weak breath faltered. I felt your pulse, it was gone. You had your life bartered. I cried inside though outside I had to act but brave. Those moments, etched in my Heart, I just could not save. * Written in abcb, 7-6-7-6 format. * Dedicated to my wife, whose last moments, 13 June 1996, are depicted here. * Written initially as entry 474071, now deleted, for the book Love poems "LOVE POEMS" M C Gupta 9 December 2006
