The Shortcut

By Indelibleink

At the fork, just bear to the right,
and then you cut through "Harmony Pass."
Alone it appears I will sleep tonight,
"A really great shortcut," my ass!

The voice - oh so calm - when it said,
"Turn left," which I found alarmin'.
Taking that route would get us all dead,
that's the last time I listen to Garmin!

Hard to say just why I listened to him,
hurts bad now, with my left ankle swelling.
Heaven knows this was worse than a day at the gym,
no one said we were going rappelling!

Alone on the cliff, my migraine clanging,
and from my pockets fall fives and tens.
Alas, my rope's snagged, and I'm left hanging,
all this 'cause someone lost their contact lens!
