LOVE: a sonnet
Love is an emotion that is unique, It cannot be kindled, it can’t be killed. Coming from heart, it does not bear critique, As man’s strongest power it has been billed. In love one can truly give one’s own life, But one driven by love can take life too. For husband, sacrifices does make wife, Husbands also love them, it is but true. But when love is another name for sex, It loses its power that is divine. When its value is paid in bills or cheques, It turns from spirit to the cheapest wine. Deep in the lovers’ hearts are love bonds laid. Love is meant to grow, not to be repaid. • Written initially as entry 418345 in the book LOVE POEMS, "LOVE POEMS" M C Gupta 9 April 2006
