THE STATUE OF LIBERTY
I am holding a newspaper in the palm of my hand And I'd like to share something that I can not understand. In a small captioned article on the bottom of the page In a story simply stated, has just put me in a rage. "Tuscon, Arizona" two weeks death count comes to thirty-eight "Immigrants" entering illegally have died from extreme heat! There's been a fence erected, just to keep them on the "other side." Yet with all that's done to stop them, they still enter here with pride! Now there is another border far up on our northeastern shore Where a lady stands to welcome all, her torch held forevermore! In past generations, men sailed cross miles of deep blue sea To find this land of "freedom" meant for them, and you and me. How does this picture show such opposite sides of view? Our great-grandparents welcomed, some were given free land too. Mine came from Germany, did yours come from other nations? They fought for America, standing proud at celebrations. Just WHO closed the doors on our neighbors from the south? And just WHO built the wall, to lock these people out? Famous words were once spoken, "Gorbachev, tear down that wall!" Another place in time perhaps, but now it must pertain to ALL! Walls, guns, and calvary will not quench what is happening now As we become more bigoted, our nation too might fall. If our southern neighbors want to live in our "land of the Free" They deserve to be welcomed also - by our STATUE OF LIBERTY!
