MY LIFE

Looking back over all the years I find
that life has been most good and kind,
with a few heartaches along the way.
Not too bad for a child born in May!

I arrived with a loud and lusty cry,
to the womb I had bid a goodbye.
The air was fresh and sweet to me
so I opened my eyes and could see.

"This isn't so bad" said I to myself,
as I studied the objects on a shelf.
A smiling woman held me in her arms,
she seemed enchanted by my charms.

My father and the siblings took a peek,
and must have decided they would keep
this red-faced, bald, little bit of noise
who would be a charmer of the boys!

Fast forward to my grown-up years,
there were smiles and there were tears.
Far too soon I became old and gray
Not too bad for a child born in May!

Life has been good, I must admit,
and I wouldn't change a bit of it.
Life is precious and goes too fast,
I really wished that it would last.

My life (and yours) is what we make it,
it is all about just how well we take it.
I am glad that I was born and can see,
that someday I will treasure the memory.

So I will try to make my life worthwhile,
and if I can, I will make someone smile.
I will try to make this world a better place,
remembering a smile on my mother's face.
