You have those people in your life you can tell everything to
They are able to understand what you are all about
A secret whispered in their ear never crosses their lips
Unless said in an undertone of disbelief
As comfortable and comforting as a cotton sweater
They are always the sure thing in your life

A boy with a flower may break your heart, but they are there
Ready to pick up the pieces that boy has carelessly left behind
Then place the flower delicately in your hand, telling you to
Keep it as a memory of what you had and the lessons you’ve learned
Telling you, that boy was a hummingbird flighty and
Unable to stay in one place long enough to care what’s in front of it

These people will not baby you, they tell you the truth
Even though maybe that’s not what you want
