                                      Ghazal 163


Persian:  Baraft aan dil keh ba sabr aashna bood
              Cheh meegooyam nameedaanam kuja bood
Urdu:      Mera dil sabr say jo aashna hay
              Khuda jaanay kahan aur kuin gaya hay

English:=== The heart that loved and could forbear
                  It has finally left for God knows where
                                            -

Persian:  Hama shab deeda am khuftan nadaadast
              Keh boo e gulrukh e mun ba saba bood
Urdu:      Jhapakti aankh pal bhar hay na maeri
              Keh boo e yaar e gulrukh ba saba hay

English:=== Now night after night I cannot sleep
                  For I find her fragrance always in the air
                                              -

Persian:  Az aan bar gul zanad faryaad bulbul
              Keh o saalay tamaam az gul juda bood
Urdu:      Karay faryaad kuin bulbul na her dam
              Keh gulshan maen hua gul say juda hay

English:=== And I wail and wail like a nightingale
                  Because her absence I just can't bear
                                              -

Persian:  Manaal aey bulbul az badahdi e gul
              Keh ta bood ast khoobi, baiwafa bood
Urdu:      Too badahdi e gul per ro na bulbul
              Keh her maashooq hota baiwafa hay

English:=== But being a lover I should realize
                  That the beautiful girls are always unfair
                                            -

Persian:  To aey zaahid keh andar koo e oie
              Cheh goona meetawaani paarsa bood
Urdu:      Na ja aey paarsa koo e butaan maen
              Na reh sakta koie waan paarsa hay

English:=== And when he sees her lovely face
                  Even our preacher doesn't have a prayer
                                              -

Persian:  Zay dar bairoon maraan baigaanawaaram
              Keh een baigaana waqtay aashna bood
Urdu:      Uthha dar say na aashiq, dar Khuda say
              Kisi ka too, wo taera aashna hay

English:=== And if he dares to knock at her door
                  For him, he is told, she does not care
                                              -

Persian:  Ghamat bus bood, bad gutan cheh haajit
              Tura gar kushtan e KHUSRO raza bood
Urdu:        Na ker yuin serzanish, ker qatl us ko                     
                Jujhhay jab kushtan e KHUSRO rawa hay

English:=== And when she sees him, she pulls her sword
                  For the killing of her KHUSRO she thinks is fair
