MEMORIES!

I had hoped I would be the first you know
To journey to that far off land for which
So many long - but that was not to be.
You, who had such love, and so much
Still to do, was allowed to go before me.

I miss you so!
You had a courage and a faith,
That I could never fully understand.
Whatever trials or tribulation came your way,
You always turned out the better for them, and that
Made me better too, all those years I was with you.
Then suddenly, you were gone, and I
Was left to go on, without you.

I have come now to believe that of all things,
Life is the most frail, followed next by faith.
Both of which must be strengthened and
Nourished, if either is to flourish.
So, I come here where I can sit in peace,
Beneath a little tree and beside a little bridge,
To treasure a life so blessed, it seems
Not something real, but more a dream to me.

And I summon up a mountain of memories,
To keep from drowning in my sea of pain.
Because this place had been our favorite, I think.
Here, where the peaceful waters slipped on by, and
Where so often you lay by my side,
In this quiet paradise of ours.

And I hold on to the faith you showed me.
By far, the best of the things you left me, and
I trust in a life of memories
To help me keep believing.
Believing there are better times awaiting.
Both in this life and the one that is to come, my love.
