FADED BLUE RIBBON

She was only sixteen and had stolen my heart,
A smile that lit up the room and tore me apart.
Now she was too young for an old fellow like me
And I was too bold for her and liked being free.

Chorus:
A pretty blue ribbon tied in her hair,
A token of love that she would share.
Just a memory is all she would ever be,
She was too young and liked being free.

The honorable thing would be to just walk away.
I knew if I stayed by her, there would be hell to pay.
She had long golden hair and eyes that were blue,
One dance with her made my dreams come true.

She wore a blue ribbon in her soft golden hair,
She danced with abandon, with never a care.
The music stopped playing, our dance was through,
Off to another she ran, she would never be true.

Chorus
A pretty blue ribbon tied in her hair,
A token of love that she would share.
Just a memory is all she would ever be,
She was too young and liked being free.

She never looked back, she just waved to me.
I was bound to be haunted by her memory.
I never looked back as I walked out the door
With a faded blue ribbon I found on the floor.

I'll keep that faded blue ribbon 'til my dying day,
There is nothing to do and not much I can say.
A ribbon is a memory of love that never could be,
I had been much too bold and liked being free.

Chorus
A pretty blue ribbon tied in her hair,
A token of love that she would share.
Just a memory is all she would ever be,
She was too young and liked being free.
