Sights and sounds of southern West Virginia ...
Back Home in West Virginia …

I had a chance to go back home,
First time in quite awhile.
The friendly faces, down-home food
You know it made me smile!

The country music, pick-up trucks
Fried green tomatoes, too.
With “Howdy, there” and y’all take care”
So much to see and do.

Majestic mountains, country roads,
How much I’ve missed it all.
I am a West Virginian
And I stand proud and tall.

The roads are like a blacksnake’s track
And not quite two-lanes wide.
They curve; they twist, then back again.
It’s not an easy ride.

The monster coal trucks rule the roads
And rumble through the day,
With drivers working dawn to dusk
To make an honest pay.

With mountain ridges stretching out
As far as I can see,
I am a West Virginian
And I stand proud and free.

The houses in the old coal camps
May look run-down outside,
But inside you’ll find love and grace
And loads of mountain pride.

It seems that those who have the least
Are first to lend a hand.
When times are hard, they offer help.
They know; they understand.

The land, the people, everything,
It’s all dear to my heart.
I am a West Virginian.
I’ll never more depart.
