“Baseball players and fans are superstitious.” “Are not!” Will stopped for the red light on Bigelow Street. “What brought that on?” “I was just thinking. Why are you wearing that cap?” “I’m going to a Yankees game and I am wearing a Yankee cap.” “I mean, that cap, that particular one. What is so significant about that one? It’s old and dirty and you have nicer ones at home,” Edna reminded him. “This is my --” He broke off. “A HAH!” “What is that supposed to mean?” “You were about to say that’s your lucky cap.” “Was not.” “Yes you were! You think if you wear that cap it will help them win.” “That’s stupid.” “Yes it is but you still think so.” “What was I wearing when Arod got that walkoff home run in the eleventh last time we were there?” “That cap, but that doesn’t mean anything.” He was silent, negotiating uptown traffic. She went on. "And speaking of Arod, you will notice he wears a big thirteen on his back. Is that superstitious?" “I don’t know. Is it?” “Some people think thirteen is their lucky number. Some people who are otherwise perfectly sane believe Boston is under some kind of a curse for trading away what’s his name, George Herman something --” “I never said I believed that.” A moment later Will slammed on the brake and muttered, “Idiot!” “Will! That man stepped right out in front of us! I don’t know how you missed him!” “Well I am wearing my lucky cap.” 257 words Winner---8/13/2010
