  “A Tequila Night”

Having had too much tequila the night before, I groaned as I made my way out of the bathroom again. My stomach was shifting gears and definitely trying to drive. Opening the sliding glass door, I stepped out of the condo onto the sun-soaked beach.  My three adult children, silhouetted against a pure blue sky, were lined up at the water’s edge.  They were waving me to hurry and bring a chair.

“Come on, Mom. You got to see this!”

I wasn’t functioning too well for having had such a great time the night before. “Margarita Villa”, a beached karaoke bar where I ate, drank and sang the same song, "Margaritaville" of course, until 3 AM with my 29-year old son.

Could it have been the tacos, the hot sauce, the hot this or the hot that?

“Okay, I’m coming,” I yelled back, grabbing a chair. I painfully made it to the water’s edge, smiling at the three excited faces. Placing my chair behind the healthy, wide-awake people, I plopped down. God Bless them.

The invitation to watch the dolphins swim gracefully past us, held me in awe. There were a dozen or more, playing and leaping into the air. Were they laughing at us, or at me? My stomach racket grew louder and it was growling the most obscene sounds that I had ever heard!

Hoping the three heads would not turn around or be aware of my dilemma, I quietly moved further back. I planted my chair into the soft white sand, watching and praying no sounds would escape.

Suddenly in slow motion, my chair tilted to my left and I hit the sand. Horrified, the most obscene noise escaped my body.

“Mom!!"
