Love's Token

Another year past and gone
Loved you then now It’s done

Wanted you to change a thing or two
But I am the one who changed not you

The time we had filled with sun and rain
but I'll never regret playing the game.

You play it well, an expert with my heart.
You make love an incredible art.

My heart was in chains, rusted and stuck.
But with only a whisper you melted the lock.

Set free and so yearning to give you it all,
I rushed in too fast, couldn’t wait to fall.

Just like an infant demanding to be fed,
I pushed you away; I understand why you fled.

My new heart broken, bleeding, in pain,
But better than choking on a rusted chain.

So, my dear, I thank you even though my heart’s broken
It will heal, free of chains, because of your love's token.
