People watching

People watching while on my lunch
It is time I went for lunch off to my favourite place
Now should I have a coffee and a muffin or should it be a sandwich
Decisions, decisions
I pay the woman and go and find a seat,
I wonder if there is one outside so I can watch the world go by,
The woman brings over my coffee and muffin.

I sit back studying all the shoppers with their arms overloaded with bags,
Observing people come and going and out of shops, as I stir my coffee.
I wonder what is in their bags I know it will be tonight’s dinner,
A full dinner with all the trimmings is in order,
Oh, look that woman is going to buy some chocolate for someone special,
Their goes another one in to have a passport photo taken.
I wonder where she is going.
As I sit and eat my muffin and drink my coffee,
I sit and dream of sunnier destinations,
Sitting on the balcony watching the children in the pool
Sipping a glass of wine,

A woman speaks to me; I jump from my dream,
“Is it ok if I sit here?” She says
Oh yes, is the reply I am just people watching.

I take another sip of coffee
I notice a woman pushing a toddler in a stroller,
Who is crying, with ear piercing screams wanting to be out I presume,
Then I speculate as to the age of the child
He only looks young, two at the most
He seems to be having tantrum as I look over,
They say when they hit two;
it’s the terrible 2’s, time for outbursts
I sit and watch as she calms him down,
Then he stops and peace is restored
Only she knew how to stop him.

I look at my watch and its time to go,
Ah well that’s my people watching for today,
I wonder whom I will meet tomorrow.
