A Dying Love

Under the glow of the midnight moon
A breaking heart leaves morning dew
As tears fall across the petals.

From afar, he watches her silent pain
An umbrella keeping him dry in the rain,
He shivers as the shadow settles.

Movement catches her flooding eye
A shimmer in the distant darkened sky
A dying star has lost its flame.

In despair, he bows his shameful head
She is lost, all hope is dead
His heart screams out her name.

From the heavens, a whispering song
A chorus from a peaceful angelic throng
Does bid her lungs a final breath

Paralyzed by rage and fear
He fails to shed a saving tear
As she greets her blissful death

Still, as she finds her resting place
The man hides his horrified face
To never admit his violent offense

And in her stillness, she is free
From all he ever wanted her to be
Death her only true defense.
