LINGERING

It seems I can't forget
all the things we once were;
the way our souls entwined -
yours and mine.

And though the anger yields,
holding itself inside,
allowing me to breathe,
it still controls.

And I, alone
with naught but my thoughts
have considered -
and reconsidered.

The truth of the matter
- I miss US -
just not enough to
crawl across the floor.

It was so simple.
I thought.
So clear and easy.
Once.

And now, it's nothing.
Dust in the corner;
memories of a life
that once was.

Tears - of anger
and sadness still fall.
I catch them in a jar
for later - for remembering.

Perfection has flown
into the night.
I was only perfect -
once - with you.
