Undina watched the sky warily while her daughter stared cross-eyed at the ladybug on her nose. It had been dark all morning, and every bird, leaf, and blade of grass seemed tense with anticipation. She didn’t need to be a fortune teller to know that the weather was about to turn sour - or that she’d be likely to hear about it later.
Of all the things I can see, why does everyone always want to know the weather?
         "Mamma! Mamma!"
When Undina didn't respond to what she considered to be her most impressive arm flailing, Lorelei decided to take matters into her own baby hands. She tried to blow the ladybug off her nose, but her attempt came out instead as a loud raspberry. The sound took both her and her new insect friend by surprise, causing her to giggle madly - and the ladybug to flick its wings for a moment before flying off across the yard. For a moment Lorelei considered the merits of staying put and making more entertaining sounds with her mouth, but she was already feeling lonely without her ladybug.
And so she rolled - a method of transport that she was quite proud of, being vastly superior to crawling - after her friend.
“Lorelei, come here darling,” Undina called, still watching the sky.
Lorelei found this as a perfect opportunity to make use of the new sound she had invented.
That was when the rainclouds finally burst. Lorelei sat down with a soft flump and stared in awe at the clouded sky. The rain fell on her nose, her, cheeks, and her eyelids, continuously thwarting her attempts to shake it off.
         Her ladybug was gone.
         She was wet.
         She cried.
Undina was already half way across the yard when she realized that the rain had stopped even more suddenly than it had begun - but it was by no means gone. It floated in the air as though time had stopped, then all at once each individual drop exploded, filling the little garden with bubbles.
This turn of events pleased Lorelei, and she decided that it was well worth the cessation of her tears to find out how many rain bubbles she could catch in her mouth.
Undina was less thrilled by the bubbles, and more confused by their sudden appearance. Strange occurrences in the general vicinity of a Lyrian child were of course quite commonplace, but she wondered at someone who knew all of three words being able to stop the rain in not just a small, several foot area, but the entirety of their little yard (and had she known it, the rest of the island as well.)
But then she had only her experience with herself and her sister to go off of, and neither one of them had been particularly talented, even as adults. She was still getting the weather wrong after all.
