UNANSWERED PRAYERS

I have prayed a lot in the past year, it seems,
but my prayers are unanswered, hope gone.
Somehow I feel that the answers will come
but all the troubles still just keep going on.

I asked for forgiveness and I think He forgave,
but my life was in turmoil, there was no doubt.
I asked for troubles to finally come to an end,
still I can clearly see there is not a way out.

I prayed for my family, to lead them to the light
of salvation and for change within their heart.
Yet there was no change in their lives at all,
and their bitter pain was just tearing me apart.

I question the reason for prayers not heard,
am I asking too much of my Father's grace?
Down on my knees, I pray for His guidance,
but my prayers may just be out of place.

Thy will be done, I keep repeating, Amen!
He doesn't give more than we can handle.
My heart is breaking, I pray for His help
by the dim light of the flickering candle.

Unanswered prayers? He always answers,
but sometimes the answer we hear is "no".
I have to learn to trust Him so completely
that He will show me the way I should go.

My faith may be shaky and the road ahead
may have large potholes and rocks in the way,
I will just keep on praying until I get it right
and His answers will come, come what may.
