NO VIOLIN
What is it without the music?

----by Dan J. McDonald

Haunting strains of the violin
Penetrate midnight reverie
Baring the soul's facade
Mining the whys to life's darkest questions
Music the map to the pathways within
Moving from question to question to question
Finding no answers lie between
One must go deeper
The music leads on
The violin plays on

One degree above Madness, in Altered State
In the city of Hypnagogy real meets illusion
And the two intermingle
Now each speaks the other, both become bilingual
The answers remain clothed in unyielding code
One must continue
The music leads on
The violin plays on

Now choral voices join the journey
Giving word to the musical search
Evoking remembrance imbued with emotion
Increasing the yearning to know and be known.
The music leads on
The violin plays on

The violin stops

Now a cappella the choir sings on
Approaching the door where experience meets reason
In great crescendo but uncertain note
Voices demand entry to the mother lode
In great anticipation the choir hums softly
The choir chants softly
The choir sings softly
But the door remains closed

No violin

No heart in the music, its power gone
No violin stream to carry the words
The tune only skeletal, body without soul
And the door will only open, not to part, but the whole
In diminuendo the choir fades into silence
And in that silence no answers
Only questions remain

No violin
