Starlight Memories

Every sunset watches me do the same,
I saddle up and ride, burdened with blame.
Through fields and forests, bridges and plains,
I know she's gone; still I call out her name.

Fireflies lead me to what used to be our nest,
in the shadow of a hill, and there is she.
I see her smile as I hold her close,
under this aging maple tree.

(chorus)
Then just when I'm about to land on her lips,
she's gone in a flash, nowhere to be seen.
Only then I realize that I'm being haunted,
by those starlight memories.

I see us dance to the music of the winds,
as the hide and seek of stars begins.
(It doesn't even sound like a song as I sing,
I know I'm paying for all my sins)

A cold wave of breeze freezes our souls,
it makes her tightly cling onto me.
I can feel these notes melting her heart,
under this aging maple tree.

(chorus)
Then just when I'm about to land on her lips,
she's gone in a flash, nowhere to be seen.
Only then I realize that I'm being haunted,
by those starlight memories.

I dreamed of waking up watching her eyes,
and everything else that wasn't to be.
Dreams that are now waiting to die,
under this aging maple tree.

These are more than just shallow memories;
they've kept that hope blazing inside me.
For I know even she'd want to relive…
those starlight memories.

(tempo slows...)
And baby if you're still caught in two minds,
don't think twice, you can count on me.
When the sun goes down, I'll be waiting right here,
under this aging maple tree.
