silent wood
the watchers watched ~

                   in shadows
                   were the drummers hid
                   silver arrows
                   pierced the green
                   stood watch above
                   the lovers
                   seldom heard
                   their music played
                   stood aside
                   as sighs were traded
                   words undone
                   by twilight's glow
                   prayed awhile for something more
                   (would never be)
                   to change the world
                   moved aside these stones
                   til there be nothing
                   left (to show the way)
                   a path became a fortress
                   brought and kept us (here)
                   lessons thought we learned
                   but had no memory
                   of hours spent
                   (waiting in the dark)
                   before the morning
                   gave for us
                   another drum
                   a heartbeat rose
                   against the archer's mark
                   no longer only watching
                   arrows rained
                   as silence listened
                   grateful
                   for the shadows
