Written for "COLORING THE WORLD CONTEST "
Prompt: "Dark Magic" Escaping Dark Magic Once lost, caught in a web of never-ending lies, I’ve seen the sun, taken a breath and opened my eyes. Baby steps lead me down the dark winding roads; Scarred hands holding the biting shards of hope; Crying. Dying. Still denying. Cursed; I must have been at the moment of my first breath; To a long and lonely life before mercifully freed in death. Perhaps it was a voodoo doll – with my green eyes That held me captive for so long – I despise The maker. The breaker. The soul-taker. Ah, but where there is darkness, there is light And I’m returning from the shadows prepared to fight. Armored in courage and sheer determination, Battling for a healing future; my salvation; Anticipating; waiting; calculating. Who brought this murderous black magic upon my head? Does it surprise that my soul has awakened; that I am not dead? I no longer retreat; I am not waived by selfish desires I have long been burned by those hellish fires; The concrete heat of narcissistic defeat. I have risen from the dust – ashes no more. A stronger Me than I’ve ever been before, I will walk steadfast in the radiance of life; A daughter, sister, friend, mother, wife. I will not fall, will not crawl; I will stand tall.
