Crimson Petals

We stand, as poppy petals fall
Like drops of crimson blood,
For fallen soldiers, one and all,
Who died in Flanders' mud.

We contemplate the young lives lost
In freedom's noble cause,
The sacrifices, and the cost
Of conflict, strife and wars.

We vow to learn to put an end
To bombs and weaponry,
And hope that one day we transcend
The inhumanity.

So wear your poppy now with pride,
And show the world you care,
And for those gallant men who died,
Lift up a grateful prayer.

The falling petals refer to the Festival of Remembrance held at the Royal Albert Hall when poppy petals are released onto the heads of the audience.
