That First Christmas Morn
Entry for Seasons - November

Prompt: Christmas

What was it like there that first Christmas morn,
Two thousand or so years ago
When in a stable, the Savior was born?
Hard to imagine, I know.

A small tiny infant asleep in the hay
While His loving young mother looked on.
Weary from travelling so far away,
She was tired and worn to the bone.

Shepherds were watching their flocks in the field
And saw the brilliant shining star.
Eastern wise men knew not what this would yield,
Yet they sought the new babe from afar.

So small and so helpless, He came to Earth;
A sinless sacrifice He would be.
For we all know that through His virgin birth,
He came that all men would be free.

This lowly infant grew into a man
Who did miracles and many great things.
He was the fullfillment of God's great plan;
He was born to be King of all Kings.

Never on this soil, a crown did he wear;
His kingdom is not of this life.
He reigns in Heaven where we will share
Eternal salvation, not strife.

His pure crimson blood on Calvary was shed
To cover the sins of mankind.
If you'll only believe, you've nothing to dread
When you leave this old world behind.

Admit you're a sinner, confess, be baptized.
It is as simple as A, B, C.
He came here to live, to die and to rise
To save sinners like you and like me.
