Let's Paint the Town
A poem using color as a metaphor for diversity (dedicated to a close friend)

Let's paint the town
Just you me.
With brushes in hand,
and our hearts on our sleeves.

Let's smear the windows with crimson
and the doors tangerine.
Splatter yellow-gold across concrete, while
Dripping forest green into the streets.
Strokes of sapphire
Reinvent and revitalize
the plain white siding
of uniform houses.
Stand with me on the roof as we
Pour buckets of violet and
Let's watch as it streams down the sides
and intermingles with
the other colors of the town.

You're worried about the impending weather
and I agree, those are ominous clouds.

But when a storm passes,
No matter how much the paint runs,
and thins
and disappears,
Just remember this:

A rainbow will always follow in its wake.
