a loaded rifle
laid across his vest

(of green shaded patches
shaped into drops

turned in the wind
like the leaves that fell

in summer when autumn
wasn't one shot away)

over the matted grass
hooves and under the

mashed clotted holes
of his tire skidded face:

a photo taken out of focus
like his hunting license
