The Journey Home
A Rondeau poem for Day 7 of the Fall 2010 Rhythm and Rhyme Poetry Challenge.

It's my desire to find my way,
A course that leads to truth's cafe,
A russet path not yet well used,
and times of trouble not excused,
As wisdom fuels this marked ballet.

I grow and learn along the way,
From parents, friends, their thoughts convey,
Innocent and unabused,
         ... to find my way.

My journey's not a passion play,
A show I watch, then chase away.
And let me not be found accused,
Of chasing dreams, false and diffused,
Toward my final cabaret.
         ... to find my way.

Author Note.  A Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a
sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short - a
refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the
same metrical length).
