A Tale Told of the Land of Acquiescence
Portion I Let me voice this narrative of Acquiescence. It originated backward hundreds of years in the times of yore. It was a time of war, unrest and little temperance. During this age heaps of stories were told as folklore. This epic will recount the narrative of the inhabitants. Their lives will be exposed for all to enjoy. It will be left to the reader to make judgments. The objective here is for pleasure, not to annoy. Sit back get comfortable this epic will soon unfold. Pay attention to the oddballs that lived during those times. It will be those originals that will be extolled. Hopefully expressed and honored within these rhymes. Portion II Sir Hestant the Reluctant-Hearted had been Knighted. King Pushover and Queen Lotamouth presided during the event. Sir Hestant had been over excited. Poor young knight, he was but the ruler’s gent. The King had but one purpose for Hestant, once Knighted. Pushover knew Hestant would do his bidding. The Queen had her designs for the knight-errant. Rodney had not a clue, he was acquiescing. He was soon hood-winked all realized, it was apparent. King Pushover sent the young knight on an impossible task. He dispatched Sir Hestant to kill a legendary beast. If Hestant was to survive, he’d have to multitask. Failure would mean Sir Hestant would be the creature’s feast. Portion III Sir Hestant however, was not totally a buffoon. He decided to summon his faithful Muse Lolliope. “I need your guidance.” Hestant muttered, “On a quest, I leave soon.” He was aware that Lolliope instantly offered, “It is my obligation for your glory.” Late that same day Sir Hestant left the castle. He proceeded toward the last sighting of Miffs the beast. He knew full well it would be an epic battle. Sir Hestant was not going to be a legend’s feast. Portion IV Sir Hestant was guided by Lolliope to the Land of Nurnberg. It was notorious for its thick forests and numerous beasts. Nurnberg was bordered the mystic realm of Erg. It too was not known to be friendly to Knight or Priests. The trek being long, full of hardships and dangers, Sir Hestant was ever vigilant, he wished to stay alive. He was unsure what to expect from the local burghers. Lolliope in his company would make certain he did survive. Many days and nights passed on this quest. Sir Hestant was eager to engage Miffs the brute. In his heart he felt he would endure his King’s test. He’d return to Acquiescence and acquire Lady Gwen as tribute. Portion V Sir Hestant began his quest wandering through Nurnberg. He knew that he might encounter the Piatek. This tyrant was known to steal one’s rations, even a ham burg. Hestant ever watchful guarded his food to fool the roughneck. While consuming a meal the ogre did appear. Hestant, wise the beast, let his Muse Lolliope foil his charge. Piatek obviously frightened when she did appear. It was her duty, this ogre to discharge. Having endured this assault, Hestant journeyed on. It was only the beginning he knew in his heart. His quest in mind, he was further drawn. The mission at hand, Piatek was but one to outsmart. Portion VI Sir Hestant struck off toward Maldon in pursuit of the dragon. Miffs, as he was called, would be difficult to find. It struck Hestant that his search would broaden. However, he was true to the quest he’d been assigned. The going was slow and the weather bleary. Food was scarce and there was little good in Maldon. It would be near impossible to travel this land carefree. Ever vigilant the knight was ready for action. Out of nowhere a red furry beast appeared. It was Adlet a fearsome werewolf who charged the knight. Shrewd Lolliope again intervened for the knight she endeared. Aldlet’s teeth and claws disappeared from sight. The wolf now harmless was defeated quickly by the wanderer. This action complete, Sir Hestant resumed his hunt. He could not have a rest until he found Miffs, the cancer. Headlong the knight trudged, his quest was not stagnant. Portion VII Ipswich remained ahead of this young arrogant cavalier. Hestant knew little of this province. His memory told him Ipswich was cold, barren and austere. Just the thought of this land made him wince. He was resolute to complete Pushover’s challenge. After all he’d been promised Lady Gwen’s hand. For this alone he was unwavering to take this plunge. He would find and destroy Miffs; He’d revisit his homeland. Shadowy Charos lay in hiding within the barren countryside. This beast wore a black mantle and wielded a golden sword. He had slayed many mortals when his skills were applied. True to his nature all humans he abhorred. Hestant was staggered when Charos emerged. Once again he called upon his faithful muse. Lolliope appeared when Hestant promptly urged. The fight ended quickly; Hestant received nary a bruise. The cunning muse twisted Charos’s sword to his heart. Her action was swift and saved Hestant’s life. Thanking Lolliope the knight did hastily depart. A successful quest meant marrying a beautiful wife. Days seemed to drag on and on for the knight-errant. Many rivers did he cross in this barren land. Hestant’s resolve was ever fervent. He would slay that beast, before returning to his heartland. Portion VIII Yarmouth, he found to be ill with unfriendly people. In this place also, the weather dastardly and little food. Yet he knew he must find and face Miffs for the ultimate battle. Winning this fray would his quest near conclude. Hestant called upon the Muse Lolliope for counseling. She appeared and gave him final encouragement. As always, her inspiration was calming. Lolliope told the untried Hestant to be patient. It was but a short time following he came upon Miffs. To his surprise, Miffs was nothing like his reputation. This dragon was cowering and hiding among the cliffs. Upon meeting the knight, Miffs heart did gladden. They instantly befriended each other, sharing a few sniffs. Both knight and dragon secured a lifelong friend. Each to the other it would forever be a secret. Hestant pledged to return home, Miffs reputation, he’d append. The dragon swore good behavior would now be his template. Hestant’s trip home was quick. His explanation to King Pushover was gladly received. The marriage to Lady Gwen was swift yet epic. All of Acquiescence were proud of what Hestant achieved. The tale has come to an end with the hope that all who read will embrace. Word Count = 1,099
