Welcome to the Rockin' Review Academy!
Isn't it wonderful to receive reviews? Every time I receive an email beginning with "Review of..." I get so excited! I hope for a review with comments that show that they read it, understood in and enjoyed it. I love that feeling of anticipation! However, nothing is so sad as opening that email and seeing only a bland sentence or two. Even if the words are encouraging, I find myself wishing for more. "I liked it, write on!" We've all received reviews like this, even if sometimes more words are added to make the review fit the 250 character requirement for 'quality'. I, personally, would prefer a review that said only, "I think the word 'We'd' needs an apostrophe in the second line." to one that told me how wonderful it was with no hard criticism or reasoning. If reviewers find only a single typo, the review makes me smile because I know that I am improving my piece by putting it on Writing.com. It's nice to know that people like my stories, but that should only be part of any review. Be nice, give an honest opinion and - unless you are rating it a perfect 5 stars - give them something to work on! As reviewers we need to remember that someone else is sitting at their keyboard reading those wonderful words, "Review of ..." with the same anticipation we feel. What do we want them to see when they open our review? I know what that I want to make people feel that it was worth their time to post their writing. Giving helpful reviews is the best way to make someone's day a little brighter. This class is going to focus on a single aspect of reviewing: proofreading. We will be using the Review Tool to make your reviews eye catching as well as useful. If you are not familiar with it, please read "The Review Tool" Proofreading With Positivity, as with all the classes in the Rockin' Review Academy, is build so students can work at their own pace. We have six units and I've allocated two weeks for each unit. If you finish early, we'll move forward. If you need more time, let me know...but if I haven't heard from you in a while, expect to be pestered. Here is the link to our Classroom, which lists our Syllabus, the Classroom Guidelines, and the Grading System. The classroom holds some very important links. Please take note of them.
If you haven't already done so, please take time to read over the Student Handbook:
