Newbies,

As part of your experience within the Paper Doll Gang-Newbie Project, each of you will be submitting at least one item for consideration to our e-Zine. Yes, if your submission makes it, then you may consider yourself as a published author!

Below, Sticktalker , Lyle, has prepared some guidelines for you to follow. Please pay strict attention to ALL of the guidelines.

HINTS FOR SUBMITTING ITEMS FOR PUBLICATION

When you are submitting a story, article, poetry item, in fact, ANYTHING, to a publisher, be it the local weekly newspaper, an e-Zine, a magazine or book publisher, electronically, you need to do this on the top of the FIRST page of the document that you attach:

         1. Top left corner, the approximate number of words in the item and your email address.
         2. Top, centered the following items:
                   a. The name of the piece.
                   b. Your name, the way you would like it to be in print -- real name, pen name, even your WDC, screen name.
         3. On the top right hand corner of each subsequent page, the name of your piece.
         4. Bottom line, the page number.

Why? Your email and your copy are almost immediately separated and go in different directions. Imagine the editor has six stories he’s working on, sitting as printouts on his desk. He knocks them all to the floor. How is he going to put them all in order again?

For Shadow Express, we want all submissions to be set in 12 point times, single spaced, one space after a period, no extra returns between paragraphs. No special formatting, no colored fonts or headers or dividers, no artwork embedded in the file. We want the file in Microsoft Word, as a “.doc” file, NOT a “.docx” file. Make sure that is the extension in the file you email us. If you use Open Office, be certain you tell it to save in a Microsoft Word 6.0 doc. (Newer Word applications use the .docx extension by default. Do NOT use “Word Perfect.” If you are a Mac user, or do not have a word processing program that offers you those options, save it as a “.txt” or ".rtf" file.

Failing to do the above will result in your submission being trashed and your email returned with a note: “Please see our complete guidelines and resubmit.”
