A Friend for All Ages It seems not that long ago We ran around the back yard Playing hide-and-go-seek Building castles in the sand Boredom created new games Bouncing candy off the ceiling Memorizing corn chip ingredients We talked on the phone for hours Telling each other everything Fantasizing about so many boys Always spending the night together Closer than siblings could ever be My best friend, my confidante Now the years have flown past The miles have separated us But I only have to hear your voice And there we are back in high school There we are at the roller rink There we are trick-or-treating There we are sharing a PB&J Though our hair may turn gray And lines may appear on our face One thing time cannot change My love for you, my friend
