SOMETHING IN THE WATER

There must have been something in the water
that has changed my normal way of speaking.
When I open my mouth to give a compliment,
the words come out that I'm sure not seeking.

Aunt Betsy bought a new red evening dress
and was showing it off with such great pride.
I took a look at it and then I gently told her,
"My dear aunt, how will you ever get inside?"

"You have put on weight, and that nice dress
will make you look more like an old fatted calf!"
I am not really sure why she broke out in tears,
I meant to make her day by trying not to laugh!

My Uncle Fred has had his feelings hurt before,
by my unkind words that seem so razor sharp.
He is such a dear old man, and I never meant to
ever hurt him by mentioning his dog-like bark!

When I try to give a compliment or a little boost
to my family or friends, it just comes out uncouth.
It always seems to end up with feelings badly hurt,
but then, it will always be the God's honest Truth!

A month or so ago, I thought I had met Mr. Right,
holding me close, he kissed me in the moonlight,
Then I told him that his breath was bad and that
brought an end to a romance, gone out of sight.

I think It must have been something in the water,
some wicked virus of the toxic kind, I am sure!
I used to look people in the eye and then fib a bit,
but now I really need to find a quick miracle cure!
