A Faraway Land
A tribute to northern frontiers and territories in this pristine Earth - a poem.

The clock strikes twelve in a distant, tree-studded frontier
Where crystal blue skies reign supreme amongst the scattered clouds,
And the midday star shimmers
Across the undivided territory –
A blistery chill and bitter winds ravage the dry, ruptured landscape,
While toward the coastline, torrential waves tower
And crash upon the windswept horizon.
Faraway to the polar north, sheets of ice collide and shatter
And melt into layers of icy fluid,
Threatening the ecological balance of this treasured realm.

Wide open eyes assemble the sights and sounds
Of these majestically wild and unpopulated spaces,
A peaceful wilderness of tranquil, yet austere climatic variations
And home to an auspicious host of suitably adapted animals and birds.
Nature celebrates its responsive fabrics and existent closures
To the tune of Earth’s solemn quietude,
Richly exuding the otherworldly beauty
Of this faraway land…
