Bridge
Inspired by two bridge poems.

A span connecting two...
What?
The beginning
Depends on where you start
Equal but opposite
Are you going to..
Or from?

Or perhaps halting midpoint
Stopping to watch
Boats passing
Sailing beautifully in the breeze
Or steaming to war
Or carting goods from port to port.
Passages.

"Not all who wander are lost"
Dear master Tolkien tells us.
I wander in fantasies
Glittering cites of the mind
And tips of steaming, reeking offal
Among the soaring walls
Of ego.
Am I lost?

Beginning, middle, ending
Stories have them
And lives, moments, scenes
Linear and tidy
At least so we're told.

Yet time, like bridges
Lives, stories, moments
Are malliable monsters
Rarely cooperative
Simply sliding off the bridge
Or jumping into the sewer
Below.
