Colonel Laverick stood, her eyes transfixed on the object that filled the room on the other side of the blast proof window. She had been waiting for this moment since she was first assigned to the Military Scientific Research team almost 10 years ago. She had always loved science and would have loved to pursue a career in the field of theoretical physics, but coming from a military family she was destined to serve king and country. Then 10 years ago while serving in Afghanistan she wrote a paper on the possibility of time travel. Unknown to her at the time a new research team was being set up and one of the senior officers involved got hold of a copy of her research paper and had her recalled from the front line.

Over the past 10 years she has been able to spend time in a lab researching and experimenting with ideas to help on the battle field. From the simple robotic warfare that was created as a next step to the remote control aircraft that the air force had started to test, to the creation of new weapons, biological and otherwise, she had been involved in some, mainly small way. But now it was her time to shine. It was her project, her baby that stood proud in the test lab waiting for her to hit the switch and turn it on.

Looking down at her watch then over to the control panel where her technician Sgt. Green sat.

'How's it looking Sergeant?' She asked walking over so she could see the control console.

'All pretest checks complete, Ma'am. Everything looks OK and ready to go.'

Colonel Laverick sat in the empty seat next to Sgt. Green and looked over the results that were on the screen, then looked again at her watch. 'General Franks will be here soon and he's never late. We better get ready to the big event.
