The Way Home
Poem about a very difficult period in my life.

I strayed further than ever before
And was dead to myself.
But the lights called me home,
The darkness was too alone.
They both needed the stars to shine
And the world to turn again.

Betrayers, serpents took their bite
And left me poisoned.
A mess, lost and confused,
Swirling chaos,
Destruction, death, fear,
Madness…

It was my greatest test.
I had no ally, no direction, not even a sense of self.
But now I’m nearer to myself than ever before.
The lessons were learnt and I won’t fall for it again.
The next time I’ll heed the warning,
Of the lightning strike in the sky.
Many signs were evident, but I chose to pass them by.

Fear can make you ignorant.
You don’t want to face it so you don’t.
But sometimes you gotta let the light go out,
To find the true way home.
