"Alright, what I do is.. I watch people. Do you ever watch someone who doesn't know that your..watchin' 'em? An old lady on a street corner, or some kids getting on a bus to school? Well, they stand there and you look, and all of a sudden this -- flash comes over them, and you know it has nothing to do with anything external, because that hasn't changed. They just suddenly become realer and more alive. If you look at someone long enough, you can discover their humanity." ~Simon As Good As It Gets written by James L. Brooks Every morning, about the same time 7 a.m I sit, positioned in my hard back leather chair with my favorite Uni-Ball Vision water and fade proof pen and thick stack of no lined paper. What should I write about? A poem perhaps? I start with metaphors and it turns into rhyme, I talk about life and it ends up philosophical jibber-jabber rather than literary art. Maybe an essay? There's where I can write all my philosophical thoughts--what about life, what about how we think, and how we think affects how we live and how we write even? I'm more consumed with organization of the essay than the flow of pen on paper. Tell me, readers, what should I write. Until I find out the exact and perfect phrase and novel, I doodle with words and sketch metaphors while the fading ink of this pen lends me some rhythm. What happens when it runs out? It has taken me awhile to get back in the habit of writing since my surgery. I write poetry, essays, and everything that you see below. What I ask most of my readers is to be honest with feedback whether you smile or frown. Let me let you swim through my portolio, and please don't drown. I'm organizing as well as writing new items. Enjoy. ![]() The smell of paper Ink running across its sheets An author's fever © 2011 JCWash
