“How did that get here?” Captain Kirk asked as he stepped onto the bridge of the Enterprise.

“How did what get here,” said Spock looking up from the science station.

“That ebony obelisk taking up space where my command chair used to be,” Kirk walked to the obelisk and studied it carefully.

“I presume, Jim,” Spock ambled to the commander’s side, “that someone teleported it here.”

“When did it arrive here?”

“About five or ten minutes ago,” Spock ran his right hand across the obelisk’s smooth surface. “Right after we left the Loran System.”

“Why wasn’t I notified, Spock?”

“Jim,” said Bones taking a seat at the science station, “you were already on your way here and we didn’t think you could get here any faster.”

Spock raised his palm to his nostrils, “I believe it’s a gift from the Loran High Council.”

“How do you figure that,” Kirk frowned.

“It smells like lavender and every planet in the Loran System smelled like lavender and old lace.”

“Makes sense,” Bones got up and walked to the obelisk, “they are famous for giving odd gifts.”

“I suppose,” Kirk rubbed his palm across the obelisk, “we should send them a thank you note. It wouldn’t send it back because the Loran Council has a reputation of getting pissed if their gifts are returned.”

“Makes sense to me,” said Bones “can either of you write a proper thank you note?”

“I’ll do it,” said Kirk going to the navigator’s station, “that’s something that should come from the commander of a star ship.”
