|An Angels Kiss
Her soft, warm, lips merge into mine. Our souls meet for only an instant in time. It is enough to link our lives, forever. Now you are the measure by which all others fall drastically short. Who has the eyes as deep as the center of the universe? Who has the smile that warms me still, in memory? Long ago when our paths crossed momentarily, I was struck dumb forever. I saw the jewels of the Goddess strung round your neck. Are you an angel, that you make me tingle with life even after decades have past? Perhaps you are a devil come to torment me with thoughts of what might have been? How can this be when I still waken with the taste of your warm soft lips on mine? Your scent lingers a long while, like an expensive perfume, an experience which can only be measured by nerve endings vibrating to the music of the spheres, and the harmonics of the primal call to “Go forth and multiply.” Alas there is no product of our union, no child to comfort in our arms. Only a memory and a slight taste of yesterday remains, like a wisp of smoke from hardwood coals slowly vanishing in the evening breeze.
I fight consciousness, there never will be enough dreams of you to satiate my need born of that instant. It was just one moment in time but it changed my life. From that moment on all others can only fall short of the perfection of your face, the music of your voice, the touch of your hands, and the shimmering crystals of frost that sparkle like diamonds in your hair. You touched my heart in a way no one else ever has touched it since. I am your slave in eternity, bowing before your marble effigy. I kneel prostrate before you. Oh that I could touch you with my fingertips. Oh that I could caress the softness of your hair. I breathed you in back then, knowing that one breath must last me forever. With one soft kiss we have our place in eternity. On my mind, you are sweet as Tupelo honey is on my tongue. The taste of your angel’s kiss will linger, and like warm sunlight will brighten my days forever. I can only thank you my dear, for the lesson that you taught me that cold frosty night. Now I will know forever what it means to have been kissed by an angel.
