The Electorate as Political Pawns
Recent political diatribe on the budget controversy |
| I am angry...I am frustrated... Today, as well as yesterday or tomorrow, tell me your intention... I am paying attention. Who am I talking about you might ask, I would answer everyone. First off, I am speaking about our abysmal leadership within the Executive Branch of the government in Washington. For our international readers, this means the President and his departments and federal agencies. We here in the United States are under assault from many fronts. However, we should not expect our President, who is Commander and Chief of the Armed Services, to threaten to withhold pay from our brave soldiers serving under his command because of a budget controversy. We do not have a government of autocracy, dictatorship, or theocracy. Or do we? No, we have a Democratic Republic, whereby the citizens from independent states elect their representatives. The 2010 election proved that the unexpected peaceful and respectful TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party elected honest individuals, for the most part. These representatives have made promises to their electorate. We will remember! Now, under a power struggle to cut national debt and decrease the size of government and their regulations, there was likely to be shutdown. Let me ask a simple question. Does it make sense to disenfranchise the electorate by the Administrate Branch to threaten to interrupt the paychecks of those serving their county? To add to their psychological concerns, of their spouses and children’s financial conditions, which could distract and cause our military men and women harm from our enemies. I do not think so! I am angry! Should I not be? Then there are those that thought, when they voted in 2010, that their worries were over. They stopped paying attention except to continue to complain. While President Obama and his cronies are still blaming President Bush (two years after the fact), those complaining are just ignorantly bitching. When unhappy, you just pick a target, any target and complain. They accept any excuse for higher fuel prices, heating and soon cooling expense. Whether it is the insurrections in the Middle East to the earthquakes in Japan, they will not blame their chosen leader. Global warming is the cause, or the world is coming to an end, or the Mayan calendar ending on December 21, 2012. Whatever the cause, many are ready to give up. Not me, thank you! Then I awaken to find that, "Surprise," they came to a last minute, middle of the night agreement. They knew they would. It was all political posturing. Both sides of the controversy thought first of their political careers, not of their promises. Are we soon to see our Country compromised into financial bankruptcy? What of the military recruits? I tell you now, that a volunteer military army needs to have confidence in their Commander-In-Chief, President Obama, who along with those in Congress, would continue to receive their paychecks upon a government shutdown. Our great leader shows again, that he does not understand the Constitution he swore to uphold. It would be up to his discretion that the military receive pay and it is his responsibility, as Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces, to uphold the safety and security of our country. These men and women of our military cannot just resign or quit. Law could penalize them. Again, to mention that it was his administration that threatened their pay. It is not the up to the Congress to determine where unessential employees reside. Leadership and confidence from one that restricts just pay, by the stoke of his pen, on a political whim? Would you follow such a leader to death? Not me! It is very unbelievable that he is running for re-election. Now, several days later, I hear of a new effort, under the First Lady and the Vice-Presidents wife, of a special effort to aide the military families. Is this another election ruse? It is all just words! 'We the People' are just pawns for their power struggle game called politics. I will remember, will you? |
