18  O LOVE I CANNOT THE WAY I DID

O love I cannot the way I did
Your love, I thought, was sheer delight
Which made my life all sunny and bright
You had the magic in your beautiful eyes
And your face gave light to the moon at night

I thought if only you could be mine
Things in my life would all be fine
Only to learn that it wasn’t so
You cannot have joy without the woe
And the spring is followed by winter’s snow

So when that spell did finally break
I felt the pain, and sorrow, and ache
I saw the slaves all drenched in blood
And the peace and justice appeared all fake

So you see it’s something I cannot ignore
And I cannot feel like I used to before
And the beauty though I still admire
And still I crave and still I desire
I never can love the way I did

Mujh say pehli si mohabbat meri mehboob na maang
Maen nay samjha tha keh too hay toe darakhshaan hay hayaat
Taera gham hay toe gham e dehr ka jhagrha kya hay
Taeri soorat say hay aalam maen bahaaroun ko sabaat
Taeri aankhoun kay siwa dunya maen rakhh'khha kya ha

Too jo mil jaay toe taqdeer nagoon ho jaay
Yuin na tha maen nay faqat chaaha tha yuin ho jaay
Aur bhee dukh haen zamaanay maen mohabbat ka siwa
Raahataen aur bhee haen wasl ki raahat kay siwa

Unginat sadion kay taarek baheemaana tilism
Raisham o utlas o kamkhaab say bunwaay huay
Ja ba ja biktay huay koocha o baazaay maen jism
Khaak maen lithrhay huay, khoomn maen nehlaay huay

Laut jaati hay idhar ko bhee nazar kya keejay
Ab bhee dilkash hay tera husn mager kya keejay
