22  TO YOU SOME CREDIT, O RIVAL, IS DUE

To you some credit, O rival, is due
For I found my love because of you
My heart has become a fairyland
And worship in it this gal I do

And because of you I know the street
That’s now the hub of my everyday beat
For there she would walk with eager eyes
Trying to find you in order to meet

And the breeze there also would look for you
When it brought the scent of our you know who
And you the moon would try to entice
To play the game of peek-a-boo

O you have known the lip and cheek
Which I so love and so much seek
And you have looked into those eyes
The magic of which has made me a freak

So love we both a beautiful belle
In charm the sirens who does excel
And we’re the ones who understand
The hold of magic, the power of spell

But love has also showed me the way
To hear what the poor and the meek do say
And see in their eyes the horrid despair
The fear, the terror, the great dismay

And how to them the world appears
And how they cry without the tears
And how they become the easy preys
Of hunters who chase them like the deers

So when I see them selling the slaves
Who are sick and hungry and ready for graves
With all my heart I begin to hate
These hunters and chasers, the horrible knaves

                          URDU POEM
                        RAQEEB SAY

Aa keh waabasta haen us husn ki yaadaen tujh say
Jis nay is dil ko parikhaana bana rakhh'khha tha
Jis ki ulfat maen bhula rakhh'khhi thi dunya hum nay
Dehr ko dehr ka afsaana bana rakhh'khha tha

Aashna haen teray qadmoun say wo raahaen jin per
Us ki madhoash jawaani nay inaayat ki hay
Kaarwaan guzray haen jin say usi raanaaie kay
Jis ki in aankhhoun nay baisood ibaadat ki hay

Tujh say khhaili haen wo mehboob hawaen jin maen
Us kay malboos ki afsurda mahak baaqi hay
Tujh pay bhee barsa hay us baam say mehtaab ka noor
Jis maen beeti hui raatoun ki kasak baaqi hay

Too nay daekhi hay wo paishaani, wo rukhsaar, wo hount
Zindagi jin kay tasawwur maen luta di hum nay
Tujh pay uthhi haen wo khhoie hui saahir aankhhaen
Tujh ko maaloom hay kuin umr ganwa di hum nay

Tujh pay mushtarka haen ahsaan gham e ulfat kay
Itnay ahsaan keh ginwaaoun toe ginwa na sakoun
Hum nay us ishq maen kya khooya kay, kya seekhha hay

Ashk aankhoun maen bilaktay huay soe jaatay haen
Naatawaaoun ka niwaaloun pay jhapattay hae aqaab
Baazoo tolay huay, mandlaatay huay aatay haen

Jab kabhee bikta hay baazaar maen mazdour ka goasht
Shahraahoun pay ghareeboun ka lahoo behta hay
Aag si seenay maen reh reh kay ubalti hay, na poochh
Apnay dil per mujhay qaaboo hi naheen rehta hay
