Stillness There are many forms of stillness that pop into my mind, Some of blessed quietness, some of the disturbing kind. There is the stillness which precedes the coming of Spring rain, Earth's breath is held while waiting for Spring's dripping refrain. There is the stillness of a Robin list'ning for a worm. Down darts his head, and in his beak the tasty treat held firm. There is the stillness that follows a remark which is rude, One that the hearer hopes has been completely misconstrued. There is the stillness in the air between Act one and two. How embarrassing to find the annoying cough was you. But the stillness that is best, the one I most enjoy; Sitting on the couch, in my lap the head of my grown-up boy.
