    35  IF I ONLY THOUGHT….

If I only thought, my precious friend
That with my words I could really mend
Your tired heart, your eyes sad
And not just make you feel less bad

If I only thought that my sympathy
Could wash away the depravity
That has left your face with an ugly stain
And could cure you sickly, lazy brain

If I so thought, my precious friend
A helping hand I would certainly extend
And sing to you a happy song
And ask everyone to sing along
I would sing a song of early spring
Of flowers blooming and birds on wing

I’d tell you about the beautiful girls
With charming eyes and lovely curls
And how a girl, so proud and cold
Does melt in hands that are warm and bold
And how, when she drinks a little bit of wine
She becomes a goddess, so totally divine
And how, when alone under the night’s cover
She gives herself to a passionate lover
And so I would sing all day, all night
And provide you with a source of delight

But the songs of mine cannot cure
The pain and sorrow that you endure
My song is just a soothing balm
And it can give you ease and calm
But the sores you have are deep and rife
And what they need is a surgeon’s knife
But I’m a preacher, I can only talk
And what you need is a surgical doc

And in the end, it is only you
For what is needed, only you can do

                            URDU POEM
            MERAY HUMDAM, MERY DOAST

Ger mujhay is ka yaqeen ho, meray humdam, meray doast
Ger mujhay is ka yaqeen ho keh teray dil ki thakan
Taeri aankhoun ki udaasi, teray seenay ki jalan
Maeri diljoie, meray piaar say mit jaay gi

Ger mera harf e tasalli wo dawa ho jis say
Ji uthhay phir tera ujrha hua bainoor dimaagh
Taeri paishaani say dhul jaaen yeh tazleel kay dagh
Taeri beemaar jawaani ko shafa ho jaay

Ger mujhay is ka yaqeen ho, meray humdam, meray doast
Roaz o shab, shaam o saher maen tujhay behlaata rahoun
Maen tujhay geet sunaata rahoun halkay, sheereen
Aabshaaroun kay, bahaaroun kay, chamanzaaroun kay geet
Aamad e subhey kay, mehtaab kay, sayyaaroun kay geet
Tujh say maen husn o mohabbat ki hikaayaat kahoon
Kaisay maghroor haseenaaoun kay barfaab say jism
Garm haathoun ki haraarat say pighhal jaatay haen
Kaisay ik chehray kar tehray huay maanoos naqoosh
Daekhhtay, daekhhtay yak lakht badal jaatay haen
Kaisay gulcheen kay liay jhukti hay khud shaakh e gulaab
Kis terheh raat ka eewaan mahak jaata hay

Yuin hi gaata rahoon, gaata rahoun taeri khaatir
Geet boonta rahoun, baithha rahoun taeri khaatir

Per meray geet teray dukhh ka madaawa toe naheen
Naghma jarrah naheen, moonis o ghamkhaar sahi
Geet nishtar toe naheen, merham e aazaar sahi
Taera aazaar ka chaara naheen nishtar kay siwa
Aur yeh saffaak maseeha meray qabzay maen naheen
Is jahaan kay kisi zeerooh kay qabzay maen naheen
Haan mager taeray siwa, taeray siwa, taeray siwa
