40  RISING FROM DUSK IS THE EVENING STAR

Rising from dusk is the evening star
The painful night is not very far

The night does always bring dismay
O stop this sequence of night and day

And helps it not a lover’s plight
So stop the moon from shining at night

And the breeze that heralds the coming of morn
Tell it not to bother a man lovelorn

                    URDU POEM
                        GHAZAL

Shafaq ki raakh say jal bujh gaya sitaara e shaam
Shab e firaaq kay gaisoo fiza maen lehraay

Koie pukaaro keh ik umr honay aaie hay
