Are You the Racist?

This is a quick write in response to a discussion with my son-in-law. This is my answer on how I deal with these accusations.

I am so very tired of being classified a racist. A racist as defined by my dictionary states, an individual prejudiced against all people who belong to other races. Nowhere does this state that it applies to Caucasian individuals alone. Does this mean that a black or Hispanic can be a racist? Of course, they can.

Now, since the above definition used the word prejudice, let us investigate this definition. Prejudice is a preformed opinion, usually an unfavorable one, based on insufficient knowledge, irrational feelings, or inaccurate stereotypes. Wow, I see where that covers all of us, regardless of our skin color.

Well, I guess that would mean that everyone must discriminate, does it not? My dictionary definition states, discrimination is the unfair treatment of one person or group, usually because of prejudice about race, ethnicity, age, religion, gender, or sexual preference.

So, let me see, those of you out there in never-never land, use vitriol (bitter criticism and hatred) to slander and libel anyone that possibly has a different political philosophy than our current President by calling us racist. These individuals are only describing themselves, according to the above definitions, especially since they have insufficient knowledge to debate the true issues politely, so they result in name-calling.

I am not a racist and I do not have to prove to you or anyone else that I am not a racist. I will not allow anyone to place me on the defensive. The accuser needs to prove, without the use of vitriol, that an individual is a racist, with intelligent well thought through evidence.

Freedom of speech allows for a good editorial, diatribe or rant, spoken or written with passion and criticism. For those of you that believe I am a racist because I disagree with you, have a preformed opinion of who I am from insufficient knowledge, irrational feelings, or inaccurate stereotypes. Which definition listed above describes you?

Authors notation added on Oct. 13, 20ll ~ Many readers and reviewers have presumed that the discussion with my son-in-law, as my introduction must infer, was my accuser. This is not the case. A family member was accusing him on his facebook. He was trying desperately to defend his position of NOT being a racist. My advice is that one who is accused of being a racist needs NOT to defend themselves ~ and this editorial is why. For those that do not know me, I will state that my family, through marriage and adoption is eclectic. We all love each other equally, yet have our many differences.
