The Parking Spot

Driving to the mall, Karen had been very much aware of how fortunate she was to be alive, let alone being able to go shopping at the nearby mall. She'd been a heavyset woman before the accident, but she'd lost considerable weight in the hospital, being on a restricted diet. She was enjoying her slimmer self, and had even begun a regular exercise routine.

Humming along to the radio was a favorite way to pass the time in the car, and Karen had felt extra happy on that day to be catching up on some much needed shopping. Eying a spot close to the entrance of the mall, shed said a quick "Thank you Lord," and proceeded to the convenient spot.

She'd been thinking of getting George some new socks, when she'd rounded the corner and noticed a crazy driver weaving his way at a great speed, and coming right at her car. My God! I think he's going to smash right into me!

Turning into the spot to avoid the oncoming lunatic from striking her car, she'd breathed a sigh of relief at being safely out of his lane. Her window had been rolled up, so she hadn't been able to quite make out what the greasy, long-haired kid had said, when he'd slammed on his brakes coming to a halt behind her car.

Is he on some kind of drugs? Maybe that 'Meth' that you hear so much about these days. Karen had been frightened and sweat had begun to trickle down her face.

After pushing the button that automatically locked all four doors, terror gripping her heart, she'd turned around to see what he was up to next, and that is when she'd heard him screaming something about a fat pig with bulging eyes. Snapping her head back to face the windshield, she'd prayed he'd just go! God must have heard her prayer, because the crazed lunatic had squealed off. She'd heard his car hit the speed bump with a horrible thump! Thump as his back tires hit the mound! Still shaking, she'd sat trembling, remaining in her car for a good five minutes trying to calm her frayed nerves.

Certain that he was not about to return for a second try at her, Karen had reached for the crutches that were propped up in the back, opened her door and eased her feet onto the ground. She'd been looking forward to the day she could walk without the aid of crutches, but that day had still been a long way off.

Hobbling along at a slow pace, she'd been making her way to the entrance when an elderly couple had stopped her and asked if she was okay, concern lining their faces. She'd told them she was still a little shaky, but she was fine.

"Kids today!" The old man had said as he'd shook his head.
